Job Summary/Basic Function:
Responsible for the day to day management and allocation of programming resources, and planning and implementation of program services. Coordinates messaging and special content for, and aids in planning on-air fundraising efforts.

Boise State Public Radio is Idaho’s largest nonprofit, listener-supported NPR member station, reaching the region's metropolitan and rural areas.

Level Scope:
Provides immediate supervision to a unit or group of operational or technical employees. Sets and delegates day-to-day tasks to achieve operational objectives. A portion of time may be spent performing individual tasks related to the unit; however, supervisory activities must constitute a primary part of the job. Supervises unit operations to ensure compliance with departmental or campus policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Problems typically involve a single area, process or constituent group. Ensures accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.

Essential Functions:
● Hosts on-air shifts sharing timely information with listeners.
● Monitor and create broadcasts, including programs, promotions, programs, and messaging.
● Responsible for writing, editing, voicing and production of audio content for on-air fundraising, underwriting announcements and promotional campaigns.
● Works with the Program Director to plan, implement and evaluate program services; review audience research; ensure program services are consistent with the mission, goals and editorial policies of the station.
● Corresponds with listeners, community representatives, and external constituents regarding programming and content on BSPR broadcasts.
● Supervise Producer/Announcers, part-time student and volunteer production staff.
● Maintains checklist for regular tasks completed by student Producer Operators including downloading and inputting programs and producing on-air promotions for broadcast.
● Perform other duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
● Ability to effectively problem solve and multitask multiple projects at once.
● Interpersonal skills suitable for interactions with managers, staff, clients, and listeners.
● Knowledge of supervisory practices.
● Experience supervising music hosts and production staff.
● Experience preparing content for and the production and hosting of radio programming.
● General knowledge of troubleshooting audio routing, program formatting and technical issues.
● Computer operating systems and networking.
● Automated broadcast station operation (NexGen) and digital switching capabilities.
● Knowledge of digital audio workstations (Adobe Audition) and audio production and editing.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in radio or communication related fields.
● Five year’s experience in radio with an emphasis on operations.
● Experience with network audio consoles (ie. Axia).
● Minimum two years supervisory experience.
● Experience in radio transmission, propagation, reception and signal chain.
● Experience in FCC broadcast regulations and identifications as well as on-air requirements.
● Proven record of making split-second decisions balancing needs of listeners, station and FCC regulations.
