Job Description
Summary
A Research Technician II position is available in the Gao Laboratory at BCM Department of Neuroscience. The Gao Lab studies cellular mechanisms of neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric conditions using cutting-edge proximity proteomics, protein engineering, CRISPR genome engineering, computational structural biology, and high-throughput electrophysiological techniques. The Technician will receive additional training in these areas, and will engage in frontier, discovery-based research in neural protein-protein interaction and plasticity.
Job Duties
- Conducts routine molecular biology experiments that includesPCR, plasmid cloning and purification, Western blot, immunocytochemistry, and microscopy.
- Conducts cell culture experiments that includesmaintaining cell lines, cell transfections, and preparing primary neural culture.
- Performs mouse-related work that includes breeding, genotyping, regular checking of pregnancy and birth, weaning, injections, euthanasia, and tissue harvest.
- Maintains a safe and positive lab environment.
- Assists SOP operation, and regulatory compliance (IACUC and IBC).
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in journal club presentations.
- Assists with supply inventory and procurement.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in standard molecular and cellular neurobiology techniques in any of the following areas, Vector design and cloning, Cell / neuron culture, Immunocytochemistry and Western blot, Laboratory animal procedures.
- Be a self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills and time management ability.
