Job Description

RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Industrial Performance Center, to build upon the work of the MIT Task Force on the Work of the Future (WotF) by leading the IPC WotF “2.0” manufacturing research agenda. Will be engaged in research on key questions regarding the future of manufacturing, including the development of digital manufacturing technologies, their adoption by large and small firms, workforce training and skills, and strengthening domestic supply chains. Will also play a managing and coordinating role across the Institute by building cross-disciplinary teams and aligning research interests and programmatic capabilities for specific projects. Will be responsible for developing research methodologies and workplans, building research teams, interacting with research sponsors, preparing progress reports, and monitoring budgets; writing final reports, summarizing research findings, and present findings to a range of audiences; supervising members of research teams such as postdocs and students on specific projects and recruiting, hiring, and managing them throughout the life of a project.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., economics, political science, public policy or an engineering field with strong social science background); experience in manufacturing; at least two years of post-Ph.D. work experience that is relevant to research in manufacturing or related fields such as public policy and political economy; strong writing, interpersonal, presentation, and qualitative and quantitative skills.
