The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Laboratory Technician 1 for the Cellular and Molecular Imaging (CMI) Core facility of the COBRE Integrative Neuroscience Center, and the Van Der Linden Lab in the Department of Biology. ****This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.*** The CMI Core facility has the mission to provide infrastructure, resources, training and equipment for COBRE investigators as well as many other academic and non-academic users to perform cellular and molecular imaging research, and media preparation. Core duties of the technician include, but are not limited to: administrative tasks such as ordering supplies and generating invoices for a fee-for-service core operation; maintenance tasks of equipment for proper function; teaching and training of users on highly specialized equipment, including two-photon and confocal microscopes, as well as molecular imaging instruments. The technician will assist the core director in developing procedures and generating core facility data for annual reports. The technician would work closely with COBRE researchers as well as other core users in assisting with research procedures and experiments on core instruments. In addition to core duties, the technician will assist the Van Der Linden Lab in its funded research projects. Other lab duties include, but are not limited to: assisting with research of lab members; maintaining stocks of the C. elegans model organism; creating, managing and sorting data; preparing media and reagents; organizing files and records; training and supervising undergraduate volunteers; and other duties assigned.
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of laboratory experience performing various laboratory procedures; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
Candidates with experience should have the ability to communicate and work effectively with students, faculty, staff and outside users are encouraged to apply. This also includes participation in the research and training of those users. The working environment of the core facility is sometimes very ordered in terms of tasking and scheduling, but quite frequently, issues arise that require the immediate attention of the technician. Consequently, the technician should be able to prioritize work issues.
