Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey seeks a Post-Doctoral Associate for the Fruit Entomology program located at the Rutgers Agricultural Research and Extension Center located near Bridgeton, NJ. Position is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a Ph.D. degree and documentation of such by the anticipated start date of June 1, 2021. The duties of the position will concentrate on development and execution of laboratory protocols to characterize populations of Brown Marmorated Stink Bug, Plum Curculio, Spotted Lanternfly, other critical pests of fruit and their natural enemies using phenology, genomic or bioinformatics, conducting research bioassays on selected insecticides. The Post-Doctoral Associate will also be responsible for conducting research in fruit crops on insect behavior. The successful applicant is expected to provide leadership, contribute to writing scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, and present results at scientific conferences.

Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a Ph.D. in Entomology or related field. Required expertise in insect biology, field and laboratory work, and statistical analysis. Requires good communication skills and computer literacy. Knowledge of conducting laboratory experiments and safely using laboratory equipment.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required expertise in basic molecular skills (DNA extraction, PCR, etc.) and data analysis.

Equipment Utilized
Laboratory equipment, including compound and dissecting microscopes, autoclave, Ethovision, thermocycler. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and statistical analysis software.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must be able to lift 20 pounds. Will work under laboratory and seasonal field conditions.

Overview
70% laboratory-developing and executing characterization of populations, sampling insect populations, developing and implementing research trials.
20% Data analysis and communication of results
10% Mentoring
