Job Description


The Susan Rosenberg Lab in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics is hiring a Research Technician II who would bring innovative thinking to solve problems. The position will work on a cutting edge project aimed to develop new techniques to detect cancer and disease. The ideal candidate will have experience in cell culture and mouse handling techniques as well as excellent written, oral communication and organization skills. The Research Technician II is expected to work autonomously under the direct supervision of the principal investigator and will also be working with outside collaborators.


This position will focus on research, and must be willing to work with human cell lines and mice husbandry. Will present results and progress to PI and lab members weekly or at conferences, and assist in the preparation of progress reports for grants.

Job Duties

  • Conducts routine laboratory molecular biology experiments: DNA extraction and staining, plasmid prep and cloning, harvest and maintain cell cultures. 
  • Collects blood from mice by tail snip, cardiac puncture, etc.
  • Performs immunophenotyping and run samples on flow cytometry, and analyze data with FlowJo.
  • Documents results using graphs and statistical tools. 
  • Conducts literature searches and stay informed of the latest studies concerning DNA damage, blood biomarkers and cancer genomics.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
  • Presents results and progress to PI and lab members weekly or at conferences, and assist in the preparation of progress reports for grants.
  • Willing to work with human cell lines and animals; mice surgery experience is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

• Willing to work with animals, mice surgery experience is preferred.
