Job DescriptionJob-Specific Responsibilities
Assist and coordinate the daily operations of Dr. Jena's funded research projects. Projects relate to economic analysis of physician behavior. Use statistical software to work with large data sets, including insurance claims. Develop data files that can be analyzed as well as using statistical analysis to analyze the data. RA is expected to have strong writing skills to allow for drafting of manuscripts based on the analyses. Support development of grant applications and prepare presentations. Participate in team meetings and take minutes of meeting for distribution to the team. Assist in literature reviews and in the preparation and revisions of manuscripts for publication. Assist with IRB renewals and applications and assist with other research tasks as needed.
One or more years of related research experience required (relevant coursework may count towards experience). Proficiency in using statistical software packages such as STATA. Higher education may count towards experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Bachelors degree preferred in the field of a specific research study, with a preference for coursework in a social science field (economics, statistics, or sociology with a quantitative focus). Must demonstrate interest, experience, or background in the area of health policy and/or health services organization, financing and delivery. Must be proficient with most computer software including Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Must have working knowledge of statistical software, in particular, STATA. Competency with LaTeX preferred. Must learn other software as needed. Independent judgement, patience, and excellent communication skills are required to respond effectively to varied/complex tasks. Organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Flexibility and ability to work as a team are essential. Must be able to maintain a calm and cooperative attitude during periods of increased staff activity.
This is a 12-month term position from date of hire with possibility of extension, contingent on work performance and continued funding for the position.
This Staff role is starting as a remote position due to the COVID-19 pandemic and while the Massachusetts COVID-19 state of emergency restrictions are still in place. The current remote nature of this role is considered temporary and may change as the University continues to evaluate options. While we continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 guidelines, local on-campus work may be expected for some roles. Harvard Medical School does support flexible schedules, subject to individual departments’ business needs.
