The Jake Gittlen Laboratories for Cancer Research is seeking an experienced Research Technologist to join the laboratory of Dr. Kristin Eckert, Ph.D. at the Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey, PA.The Eckert laboratory’s NIH-funded research program is focused on discovering how DNA polymerases carry out essential synthesis of the human genome under conditions of replication stress, and the mechanisms underlying DNA polymerase orchestration during cancer progression. We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual with a background in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, or molecular biology. The ideal candidate must have experimental skills in human cell culture, cell biology and/or molecular techniques; experience in next generation sequencing methods is desirable. The Eckert lab actively collaborates with research groups within Penn State University and at other institutions. The successful applicant must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work both semi-independently and collaboratively, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with team members. Responsibilities for this position include conducting laboratory experiments for an independent research project; collecting and analyzing experimental data, trouble-shooting experiments when necessary; preparing results in the form of charts, graphs or tables for oral or written communication; maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment; and supervising students. Salary is commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus 4 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications include a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry or Cell Biology (or equivalent) and 4 years of relevant research experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire, with a strong possibility of re-funding.
