Post Doc Fellowship Positions

Phoenix, AZ

Job posting number: #7081424

Posted: July 21, 2021

Job Description

The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), An Affiliate of City of Hope
Dr. Sunil Sharma's lab is seeking a Post Doc candidate. The research is focused on the
enhancement of anti-tumor immune responses using vaccines or adoptive cell therapy
(ACT) with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) for the treatment of solid tumors.
Dr. Nicholas Banovich in the Cancer Genomics Division is looking for Post Doc
applicants’ interest in understanding how changes in gene expression levels contribute
to complex diseases focused primarily on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and/or CAR T
cell therapy.
The TGen Center for Rare Childhood Disorders (C4RCD) under Dr. Vinodh Narayanan
is looking for a candidate to pursue biological validation studies that arise from genetic
discoveries made at the Center for Rare Childhood Disorders (C4RCD).  Such studies
include cell biological, molecular biological, and animal modeling to probe mechanisms
of disease and eventually lead to novel therapeutic approaches for neurogenetic

Dr. Floris Barthel is focused on unraveling the role of telomere dysfunction in glioma
development and evolution. We employ computational biology, evolutionary genetics,
functional genomics, and molecular biology to map the ramifications of dysfunctional
telomeres on glioma genomes. Dr. Barthel is looking for multiple Post Doc candidates:

1. Telomere Dysfunction: This project and the candidate will concentrate on
detecting telomere dysfunction from DNA sequencing. While the biochemistry of
telomere fusions has been described in detail, the genomics of this phenomenon
remains largely a mystery, predominantly due to its repetitive sequence and
origin in uncharted regions of the genome.

2. Tumor Evolution: This project and candidate will aim to reconstruct evolutionary
and developmental lineages of gliomagenesis. The successful applicant will
employ next-generation genomic analysis (deep DNA sequencing, epigenome
profiling, single-cell RNA sequencing) across multiple image-mapped samples
per tumor to reconstruct tumor phylogenies and evolutionary trajectories in space
and time.

Dr. Johanna DiSefano is currently seeking a Post Doc candidate for her lab. The
candidate will investigate proteomic and transcriptomic signatures in blood-based
Extracellular Vesicles (EV) indicative of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD).

About TGen
Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is a Phoenix, Arizona-based non-profit
organization dedicated to conducting groundbreaking research with life changing results. TGen
is focused on helping patients with neurological disorders, cancer, and diabetes, through cutting
edge translational research (the process of rapidly moving research towards patient benefit).
TGen physicians and scientists work to unravel the genetic components of both common and
rare complex diseases in adults and children. Working with collaborators in the scientific and
medical communities literally worldwide, TGen makes a substantial contribution to help our
patients through efficiency and effectiveness of the translational process. TGen is allied with
City of Hope, a world-renowned independent research and cancer and diabetes treatment
center. This precision medicine alliance enables both institutes to complement each other in
research and patient care, with City of Hope providing a significant clinical setting to advance
scientific discoveries made by TGen. For more information, visit: www.tgen.org.
