Job Summary

The SBGrid Advanced Research Computing (ARC) team at Harvard Medical School has a position opening for an IT Project Manager. The ARC team designs, implements, and maintains a specialized computing infrastructure to support all phases of macromolecular structure determination in biomedical research ranging from virology to cancer biology. The infrastructure includes storage to support data acquisition as well as Linux workstations and macOS research desktops for data processing. We also support computational clusters and specialized research instrumentation computers. The ARC team works in close collaboration with SBGrid Consortium (http://www.sbgrid.org) staff who curate and maintain a library of approximately 800 scientific software titles.

Job-Specific Responsibilities

The IT Project Manager will report to SBGrid leadership and will be responsible for managing local IT projects and gathering specifications and requirements. Along with ensuring projects are completed to specification, the IT Project Manager will also coordinate help desk support functions and resolve routine support requests. This is a hybrid position, which will require 2-3 days per week of on-site presence.

Job-Specific Responsibilities
-Ensure project priorities are in continual alignment with business goals and objectives. Lead and manage multiple small- to medium-scale, cross-functional IT projects across various disciplines to include people, processes, and technology from inception to implementation; Proactively identify and resolve issues and risks, escalating as appropriate; Deliver project status reports, both scheduled and on demand.
-Build interdepartmental relationships with all stakeholders; Communicate in technical and non-technical terms with user communities and maintain content on the support website. Support other members of the team with analysis, reporting, and documentation. Effectively uses the existing CRM system and helps to develop additional functionality for improved communication and business processes.
-Coordinate ARC help desk support function and resolve routine support requests.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

BA or BS degree strongly preferred
Proven experience coordinating cross-functional teams; Outstanding time management and organization skills; Experience effectively managing meetings.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; Experience with technical documentation, including status reporting, specifications, process flow, etc.
Demonstrated ability to work across multiple job levels to achieve results. Attention to detail.
Familiarity with Mac operating systems.
Current knowledge or interest in mastering use of the following tools Google Apps, Smartsheets, Salesforce, Lucidchart, and others.
Technically savvy and able to ramp up on new technologies quickly. Adept in problem solving.

Additional Information

This Staff role may start as a remote position due to the COVID-19 pandemic and while restrictions are still in place. The current remote nature of this role is considered temporary and may change as the University continues to evaluate options. While we continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 guidelines, local on-campus work may be expected for some roles. Harvard Medical School does support flexible schedules, subject to individual departments’ business needs.
