Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time. : Our team is seeking a motivated postdoctoral appointee to conduct experimental Ferroic Materials Synthesis and Characterization working in a dynamic multidisciplinary teaming environment engaged in leading-edge experimental research in the areas of magnetic and ferroelectric materials synthesis (nanoparticle, thin film, bulk, and composite) and their characterization. Emphasis will be on demonstrating improved understanding and control of nanoscale and mesoscale phenomena in ferroics and using this improved control to enable improvements in electromagnetic devices. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Develop new synthesis, consolidation, and fabrication methods for novel ferromagnetic and ferroelectric materials and devices + Engage in laboratory activities related to the synthesis and characterization of ferroic nanoparticles, powders, films, parts, and composites, some of which may be air sensitive, demonstrating leadership and self-motivation within a collaborative environment + Publish and present high profile research in leading journals and conferences Please include with your resume/CV a brief statement of interest and a complete publication list. + Possess, or are pursuing, a PhD in chemistry, materials science, physics, engineering, or a related field + A proven track record of relevant original work, presentations at national/international conferences, and publications in refereed journals + Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
+ Outstanding problem-solving skills and effective time management skills for lab and project activities + Ability to work independently, while integrating effectively into a multidisciplinary teaming environment + Display strong interpersonal and organizational skills + Experience in the solution-based synthesis of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles + Familiarity with air-free chemistry techniques + Experience with powder processing methods + Experience with surface functionalization of bulk and nanomaterials with organic molecules + Experience relevant to the characterization of ligand functionalized materials (IR spectroscopy, NMR) + Experience with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and other crystallographic characterization techniques + Experience with electron microscopy (TEM, SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) + Experience with magnetometry and other magnetic characterization techniques + The ability to develop and maintain collaboration with leaders in the scientific community within and outside of Sandia National Laboratories + Curiosity about the world and a strong interest in connecting one's research to the larger context of science, society, and national security + A proven academic performance as demonstrated by high grade point averages
