Single Cell Core (SCC) at Harvard Medical School is seeking a Research Assistant to join our group. The candidate will work closely with the Senior Research Technician and the Directors of the SCC to learn single cell RNA-sequencing methods, to perform/ execute experiments, assist in the optimization and validation of new technologies and procedures and generate data from various genomics workflows. The candidate must be careful and detail oriented with excellent communication skills, and able to present their work to the group in lab meetings and regional scientific meetings. This is an opportunity to learn cutting-edge techniques at the forefront of next-generation sequencing methods.
College background preferably in a related discipline. One to two years related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience).
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Experience in genomics, molecular biology, biochemistry, biology or related field (relevant coursework may count towards experience).
•Prior laboratory experience is required.
•Working knowledge or experience with basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA/RNA purification, PCR/RT-PCR amplification, etc.) is a plus.
•BS/MS or equivalent professional
•Familiarity with genomics, DNA sequencing (in particular the Illumina platform), preparation of RNA-seq libraries is required; experience with single-cell RNA-sequencing is a plus
•Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical and scientific issues
•Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills
This is a two-year term position from date of hire with possibility of extension, contingent on work performance and continued funding to support the position.
