Job Description

We are seeking a Year-Round R&D Graduate Student Intern to join our dynamic team and support research at the intersection of data science, design, experiments, and materials modeling. On any given day, you will work to support Sandia staff, post-docs, and/or visiting scientists to: + write code + run simulations + analyze data + perform optimizations + and/or test algorithms : Sandia demonstrates its commitment to public safety in the national interest by requiring that all new hires be fully vaccinated or have an approved medical or religious accommodation before commencing employment. Required:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements: + Earned bachelor's degree + Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program + Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 + Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer + U.S. citizenship

Desired:
+ Experience in developing and applying machine learning solutions for design, data analysis, or materials simulation + Have familiarity with deep learning libraries such as pyTorch or Tensorflow + Have experience using high-performance computing systems + Have a record of successful research as demonstrated by peer-reviewed journal article(s) or presentation at scientific conference + Working toward a Ph.D. in material science, physics, applied math, mechanical engineering, or related field + Have experience with Python, Matlab or similar + Have experience with optimization, machine learning, or data science + Be enthusiastic about collaborating with a team, but driven as a self-starter

Department Description:

Department 1881 – Nanostructure Physics – is one of two departments at Sandia that are a part of The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT). CINT is a Department of Energy/Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center operating as a national user facility devoted to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials. Through its core facility in Albuquerque and gateway facility at Los Alamos, CINT provides users from academia, industry, and government labs, open access to the tools and expertise needed to explore the continuum from scientific discovery to the integration of nanostructures into the micro- and macro world. CINT is an equal partnership between Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National Laboratory.
