Additionally, the advisor will support students in understanding and meeting academic requirements; assist students in maintaining state-mandated four-year degree maps; promote other university services; facilitate communication between assigned students and departments; and participate in appropriate events.

Job Function:

Serve as the primary academic advisor for all [email protected] participants. This advisor will provide focused academic support and embrace and apply proactive/intrusive advising strategies. Additionally, the advisor will support students in understanding and meeting academic requirements; assist students in maintaining state-mandated four-year degree maps; promote other university services; facilitate communication between assigned students and departments; and participate in appropriate events.

Minimum Education:

Master's degree from an accredited University by date of appointment

Minimum Experience:

Two years of experience in academic advising, student services, counseling, higher education, or related field.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meet with assigned students to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues such as course planning and registration, major-specific requirements, and academic progress. The goal is to achieve an 80% retention rate and a graduation rate of over 50%.
  • Work with cohort of students to center career readiness, leadership opportunities, and other initiatives to contribute to on-time academic progress and increased timely completion rates.
  • Keep up-to-date information on university academic requirements, policies, and procedures as outlined in the UG catalog and in departmental handbooks.
  • The advisor will develop a 4- year plan that is unique to Teen Works student participants and provide support to students to meet the 4-year plan as required by the State of Indiana. The advisor will also work with students to train them to interpret the Degree Works audit.
  • Participate in appropriate admissions and orientation events; serve as departmental liaison for new transfer students; work collaboratively with academic departments to assist in the evaluation of transfer course equivalencies.
  • Promote strategies for success with students including time management, study tips, and participation in tutoring and supplemental instruction sessions; provide additional intervention with assigned students on academic probation.
  • Create advising reports as requested by School administrators and Department Chairs using Banner, Argos, and Degree Works.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty in providing effective advising services to assigned students.
  • Serve as a referral agent to other university resources and services.
  • Have the ability to tell the story about the success of individual students as well as the success of the overall program cohort, and to identify ways to continuously improve upon the overall program/cohort success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
