Position Summary

Maintains a high patient centered focus. Provides patient services using imaging modalities. Performs a variety of breast imaging services/procedures; assists physicians in breast radiologic examinations and biopsies; develops film; prepares procedure room, equipment, supplies and medications. Prepares, supports and trouble shoots use of invasive Mammotome biopsy equipment. Effectively employs optimal skills in physician interaction and relationships. Provides necessary documentation for patient tracking, billing and film tracking. Maintains and atmosphere and environment of reassurance for the patient. Assists with scheduling and other functions of the Breast Center.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Performs diagnostic imaging procedures of the breast, including mammography, breast ultrasonography, operates image guide for ultrasonographic biopsy, stereotactic biopsy and needle localization
  • Selects appropriate equipment and transducer per exam specifications.
  • Prepares room and equipment for patient comfort
  • Assesses patient’s understanding of process. Prepares the patient, explains the procedure, assists patient for appropriate positioning during the examination
  • Reviews orders for Diagnostic Imaging tests for appropriateness, modifies order according to policy or reviews with radiologist when non-standard
  • Moves transducer, by hand, over breast and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced and captured
  • Is involved in clinical teaching of Ultrasound technique, assesses technical Ultrasound abilities of new technologists.
  • Produces images of breast and records diagnostic data as indicated per procedure for permanent record.
  • Positions patient, gently, for proper mammography views, as indicated by previous films
  • Develops film, evaluating film for technical quality.
  • Sets up and assembles Mammotome equipment to assist the radiologist during invasive procedures, maintains sterile technique
  • Observes patient for any unusual reactions or events, before, during and after the procedure. Takes appropriate action following established guidelines
  • Maintains supplies and equipment in assigned area in ready state, reviewing operation of equipment and expiration of medications.
  • Performs all quality checks, as prescribed. Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc. along with other professional duties
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reviewing current literature, attending in service meetings and workshops
  • Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental and infection control guidelines. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Reports improper equipment operation to appropriate personnel
  • Attends departmental meetings as required and participates in the department continuing education program.
  • Fosters and promotes a positive image and Professional appearance
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Minimum Education: High School diploma
  • Minimum Experiences: 1 year Diagnostic Radiologic Technology

Required Courses/Certification/Licensure:

  • Completion of AMA approved school of Diagnostic Radiologic Technology
  • Current or pending certification ARRT (M,R), CRT certification in Mammography
  • Current CPR

Additional Information:

  • Pay Rate: $64.6191/hour
