Job Description

Position Highlights:

As defined by the American College of Surgeons, the surgical assistant provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The Certified Surgical Tech/Certified First Assistant (CST/CFA) is under direct and immediate supervision of a surgeon and performs in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations. The CST/CFA may take a scrub role when not needed as a first assistant.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Associate’s Degree
  • Minimum 3 years’ operating scrub experience in majority of surgical services lines
  • Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited surgical assistant program

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.
  • Assist with positioning, prepping and draping of the patient or perform these actions independently if so directed by the surgeon.
  • Perform intraoperative tissue manipulation by exposing the retracting tissue.
  • Assist with completion of procedures by affixing and stabilizing drains and dressings.

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Certified Surgical Tech (CST)
  • Certified First Assistant (CFA)
  • BLS
