Summary

The Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Communications Associate to serve as part of a 2-person team responsible for orchestrating all Department of Medicine communications, internal and external, with a goal of enhancing the quality and regularity of Department of Medicine communications.

 

With 14 sections, 10 centers, and seven vice-chair groups, the Margaret M. and Albert B. Alkek Department of Medicine is the largest adult practice department at Baylor College of Medicine. We are one of the largest education programs in the US with more than 700 trainees, and highly competitive specialty fellowship training programs, including seven federally funded research training grants. Our healthcare providers see hundreds of thousands of patients in seven inpatient and outpatient facilities and our department’s clinical excellence is recognized in U.S. News and World Report. Our departmental research initiatives span the continuum of biomedical research from basic to clinical, attracting $79.5 million in total extramural funding, including more than $62 million from the NIH as well as other federal sources

Job Duties

  • Creates, edits and publishes internal newsletters, presentations, and other vehicles for disseminating information to faculty and staff across geographically dispersed members of the department.
  • Produces communication materials on behalf of Department leadership, which includes weekly good news emails, semiannual print newsletters, academic annual reports, publications, compilations and more.
  • Provides Department Chairman with support in materials writing and editing as needed (ex. Reference letters).
  • Manages listserv of all department faculty, staff and trainees for communication. Assists Department leadership with implementing internal communications across the department.
  • Edits material submitted by Section content providers before formal communications, including helping providers with development of signature profiles. 
  • Coordinates and attends related photo shoots as needed for communication materials.
  • Supports the marketing team with market research and online analytics specific to consumer, physician and other audiences for clinical marketing initiatives as directed. 
  • Collaborates with Senior Communications Associate and Director to:
    • Implements online and digital strategy to help each section grow their business and meet objectives set by the marketing team for clinical marketing initiatives.
    • Connects with College Office of Communications and Community Outreach to ensure consistent branding and key messaging in all Departmental communications.
    • Maintains web-site related projects, working with leadership to transform goals and materials into concisely written, attractively designed web pages.
    • Works with BCM's web development team to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve website-related issues.
    • Continually reviews web content for appropriateness and conformance to standards for information architecture, editorial style, and visual design.
    • Schedules regular meetings with internal stakeholders and to coordinate updates to the website.
  • Assists in identifying gaps and challenges for clinical marketing initiatives as needed.
  • Engages in digital strategy and tactics agreed upon by Marketing, the department and the Office of Communications for clinical marketing initiatives as requested.
  • Provides support to implement departmental content in line with the College's web standards, processes and policies for marketing initiatives.
  • Assists with day-to-day maintenance of department/center social media accounts, with guidance from Senior Communications Associate and Director.
  • Utilizes analytics reports to provide direction concerning improvement of visibility and reach for management use.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
