Job Summary:

 

The position requires the supervisor to independently think and creatively control the development, implementation and evaluation of ongoing innovative programming and find creative ways to welcome new members.  Collaborates to achieve the organizational goals. Implements goals consistent with assigned clinical and non-clinical units. Responsible for overseeing the fitness center staff, operations, programs and services, while exercising good judgment in providing excellent programs and customer service to our members. The position requires the supervisor to independently think and creatively control the development, implementation and evaluation of ongoing innovative programming and find creative ways to welcome new members.   Coordinates and evaluates the programs and entities of the Health & Fitness Center; such as personal training, massage therapy, baby-sitting service, staff scheduling, retail and supply inventory, regular staff in-service training, etc.  Responsible for being on call for all emergencies.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Supervises the technical and administrative functions.
  • Supervises employees in daily operations.
  • Maintains staffing levels, approves and schedules paid time off and leave requests.
  • Provides leadership and training.
  • Coordinates and provides orientation, education and training.
  • Ensures cross coverage.
  • Develops effective work team. Improves procedures and processes.
  • Encourages and supports morale building activities and positive attitudes.
  • Communicates with employees and provides orientation on policies.
  • Analyzes workflow and procedures. Identifies and implements opportunities to improve speed, quality and effectiveness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Education:
 

Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Corporate Wellness, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology or related field with 2 year experience in corporate or commercial wellness programming preferred; or minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in the Health & Fitness field;

 

Certifications:

 

American Heart Association BLS (CPR and AED)

Minimum certified personal trainer through a NCCA accredited certification.

NASM Certification or the National Academy of Sports Medicine

ISSA Certification or the International Sports Sciences Association

ACE Certification or the American Council on exercise

NSCA Certification or the National Strength and Conditioning Association

ACSM Certification or the American College of Sports Medicine

 

Work Experience:
Three years of experience as a work leader, team lead or project manager or year of supervisory experience in a related field.

Previous supervisory experience preferred

 

Complexity of Work:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to take appropriate action in a stressful environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.


Physical Requirements:

Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requires dexterity sufficient to operate a computer.

Will require the ability to operate various types of powered material handling equipment.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
