Job Description

In this role, candidate will develop and maintain aircraft models, of commercial airliners, unmanned aerial vehicles and urban air mobility aircrafts. The modeling effort will include modeling of aircraft sub-systems, such as propulsion systems, aerodynamics and flight controls. Candidate will also support the development of Aeronomie, Argonne’s aircraft modeling software, through new component models, mission models, analysis aids, and optimization. Candidate will implement model-based systems engineering techniques to make modeling in Aeronomie easier and more robust. Candidate will conduct research related to energy-efficiency and aviation decarbonization, using Aeronomie and other tools. Candidate will help define research orientations and write proposals.

Position Requirements

  • PhD in aerospace engineering.

  • Knowledge in flight dynamics of fixed-wing aircrafts, rotorcrafts, and VTOL aircrafts.

  • Knowledge about aircraft systems: engines, APUs, propellers, fans, electric loads, etc.

  • Knowledge in flight control systems and control engineering.

  • Knowledge and experience in systems modeling (e.g. with Simulink, Modelica, etc.).

  • Knowledge in model-based systems engineering, including AMBER and Aeronomie.

  • Knowledge and experience in programming with a scripting language (e.g. Matlab, R, Python).

  • Knowledge of general and commercial aviation operations.

  • Knowledge in aircraft electrification.

  • Skilled in oral and written communications at all levels of the organization.
