Responsibilities
The James lab is looking for a Research/Medical Communications Specialist to serve as the communications specialist for a large, vibrant research program and two large clinical/clinical research Centers of Excellence focused on improving understanding and patient outcomes in autoimmune and immune-mediated diseases. Serve as the primary conduit sharing findings between members and institutions in the consortium, through helping our team develop interesting and informative content for Network newsletters, web postings, press-releases and a knowledge portal. Help disseminate research findings from this large national consortium to the patient organizations, steering committee, funding partners and patients afflicted with these diseases. Help cultivate, grow, maintain and retain strong relationships between patients and OMRF through a variety of communication methods including but not limited to social media platforms, electronic and paper mailings, newsletters, recruitment tools and phone scripts. Respond to patients regarding study outcomes, results and impact. Reconnect with patients and participants from previous studies to grow patient pools. Assist with clinical trial marketing and recruitment. Create pamphlets, newsletters and handouts, in collaboration with ACI scientists and clinical investigators that are up to date, accurate and consistent with messaging and treatment options. Organize and implement regular outreach with current and potential referring physician practices and hospitals to increase their understanding of how OMRF clinical research and services can benefit their patients. Work with coalitions, community organizations, and patient support/advocacy groups to identify opportunities to educate our communities about the importance of inclusive research participation. Design and create infographic rich flyers and correspondence for collaborators in various departmental research programs. Partner with OMRF Public Affairs to develop communication materials and bring awareness of OMRF clinics’ strengths and services to the Oklahoma community and associated research activities. Provide additional support for clinical and clinical research programs especially in order to cultivate and recognize patient relations and perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
BA degree in Communications, Journalism, English or related field and 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience with a strong interest in science and/or medicine. Alternative option is BS in biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, or medical field and 1 year of communication experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills including demonstrated aptitude with communication and dissemination techniques and methods using alternate ways to inform through written, oral and visual media. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, required. Must possess the ability to work individually and in a team-oriented environment. Must be highly organized, accurate, trustworthy, diplomatic and motivated with the ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously, exercise good judgment, solve problems, and perform well under pressure within time constraints. Must maintain confidential information and keep up-to-date technically.
