Job Description

Summary

The Department of Molecular & Human Genetics at the Duncan Neurological Research Institute is seeking a Student Helper. The lab requires a trained technician to assist with data collection, mouse handling, rodent surgical manipulations, and manuscript preparation. This position will be working on projects associated with neurodegenerative disorders but may broaden in scope with additional training.

 

This position provides support in a laboratory setting while gaining professional experience.  The candidate will learn and execute wet lab techniques relevant to genotyping, protein analysis, bacterial cloning and plasmid engineering, histology, and confocal imaging. Additionally, the candidate will be involved in data acquisition, analysis, and presentation.

Job Duties

  • Assists with mouse tail clipping, PCR amplification of DNA, and gel electroporation.
  • Assists with western blotting, mouse tail vein injections, and stereotactic brain injections.
  • Learns to design and engineer (and scale) bacterial plasmids for packaging into AAVs.
  • Assists with tissue sectioning, staining, mounting, and imaging.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
  • No experience required.
