Job Description

Summary

We are seeking a qualified Medical Assistant I to join our General Neurology group. The ideal candidate will perform patient care and administrative/support responsibilities in an ambulatory setting. The candidate will participate as part of our General Neurology team.

Job Duties

  • Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and customer service.
  •  Adheres to the scope of practice as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Assists physicians and registered nurses with various medical procedures.
  • Administers a variety of tests and medications and takes patients vital signs.
  • Schedules appointments, tests, and procedures for patients.
  • Collects pertinent clinical data to support the MD with patient clinical telephone calls, refers and preauthorizes treatment, and provides information to patient.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient's electronic medical record.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment; stocks and orders treatment room supplies.
  • Maintains a professional and cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and building rapport by participating in team problem-solving methods.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA). New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge or experience in a general neurology practice.
