The Wilson College of Textiles seeks applications for an Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration to lead our finance and business operations. The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated work ethic which aligns to our core values. Compassion – Equity – Collaboration – Innovation – Sustainability

The Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration is the chief finance and business officer for the Wilson College of Textiles reporting directly to the Dean. The Assistant Dean is a member of the Dean’s senior staff team and will regularly represent the Dean and the Wilson College in meetings, especially in direct dealings with the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business or their designees.

Many of the day-to-day responsibilities of the Assistant Dean are executive management responsibilities that overlap with the other members of the college’s senior staff team. The Assistant Dean is the senior manager responsible for overseeing the financial activities of the entire college, including but not limited to financial planning.


The Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration will be responsible for the following:

Strategic Planning and Implementation – 40%
Developing short- and long-term strategic financial goals and objectives and determine implementation plans.
Participating in strategic and operational planning for the Wilson College of Textiles.
Developing implementation plans and procedures for operational changes.
Creating, implementing, and maintaining accurate and relevant financial information used in strategic planning, budgeting and decision-making.
Monitoring and adjusting the Wilson College budget as necessary during the course of the fiscal year.
Analyzing budget needs/requests, and prepare budget allocations and reports for Wilson College departments and programs.

Administration (People Management) – 30%
Upholding the Wilson College Culture Charter and supports and promotes diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
Liaising with the Assistant Dean for Talent, Culture and Human Resources in the Wilson College on all financial aspects of human resources.
Coordinating internal and external audits.
Directing the collection of data and the preparation of financial reports and analyses.
Ensuring timely development and preparation of a comprehensive annual college budget, taking into account revenues from a diverse set of sources.
Communicating financial information and business policies and procedures to all stakeholders, especially faculty, administrators, staff, and students.
Collaborating with other NC State colleges, units and university administration.
Managing or overseeing Wilson College’s business operations staff.
Leading, supervising, training, developing, and mentoring staff to achieve performance expectations and to remain open to change and innovation.
Promoting ethical behavior in all business-related activities and ensure compliance with regulations.
Supporting the mission of the college, foster positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the Wilson College of Textiles through strong professional judgment, customer service, collaboration, confidence, competence and character.
Participating in training, professional development and mentorship inside and outside of the Wilson College of Textiles.
Serving on college committees assigned by position and personal interest.

Analytical Thinking – 20%
Providing financial oversight on accounts and account activity to ensure the highest levels of ethical business practices within the Dean’s Office and Wilson College departments and units.
Participating as a member of the Wilson College of Textiles senior leadership team and advising the dean and senior administrators on financial and administrative issues.
Modeling and forecasting prospective revenues and expenditures under different assumptions and scenarios.
Investigating and resolve issues pertaining to finance strategy.
Monitoring the expenditure of funds and ensure adherence to policies and procedures of North Carolina State University and the Office of State Budget Management.
Tracking and maintaining financial commitments.
Providing support to the Dean on projects as needed.

Compliance and Innovation – 10%
Collaborating with Wilson College units in the development of new revenue sources.
Developing, implementing, and maintaining written financial standard operating procedures.
Other Responsibilities
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s degree with a minimum of seven (7) years of related professional experience or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of nine (9) years of relevant experience.

Previous supervisory and project management experience
Preferred Qualifications
3-5 years experience in an academic environment working with research and teaching faculty
5+ years demonstrated experience leading complex work teams
3+ years experience leading complex projects with accountability to the fiscal goals of the organization
7+ Significant work experience using various technical applications used to analyze large data sets into meaningful information to client
