The Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education (JRCoE) at the University of Oklahoma invites associate or full professors to apply for the Associate Dean for Community Engagement and Inclusive Excellence position. The JRCoE aspires to become an inclusive community of learners who engage in transformative scholarship with and in communities to advance justice and promote human dignity. The Associate Dean supports and advances the college’s commitment to creating a culture that recognizes, affirms, and reflects varied backgrounds, experiences, knowledge traditions, viewpoints, and beliefs. We seek candidates who study education, formal and/or informal, through inter/trans-disciplinary critical sociological, philosophical, historical, political, and/or cultural perspectives. We are particularly interested in hiring a colleague whose scholarship and praxis engages the transformational capacities of education for historically underrepresented communities to help our college grow our focus and reach in preparing future educational leaders to transform educational systems and larger social orders.

The Associate Dean for Community Engagement and Inclusive Excellence is a key member of the dean's administrative team and assists the dean in leading initiatives to carry out the College's commitment to community engagement and inclusion. They report directly to the dean and work closely with the JRCoE leadership team, department chairs, faculty, and students to advance matters of research, teaching, and service that engages the transformational capacities of education in and with the communities we serve.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, Educational Policy, Educational/Professional Counseling, Educational Foundations, Higher Education, Educational Psychology or other applicable disciplines and fields;
  • A commitment to teaching, research, and public service activities appropriate to an associate or full professor at a research-intensive institution;
  • A desire to collaborate with faculty, students, staff, and communities to support inclusive excellence in and beyond the college and university; 
  • Experience designing and implementing inclusion and community engagement initiatives within higher education; 
  • Established record of leadership work;
  • Active involvement in advocacy work beyond higher education; and 
  • Evidence of commitment and engagement with a variety of communities. 

Preferred Qualifications: We seek candidates who bring a critical understanding of structural oppression in educational and social institutions and who engage in teaching, research, professional and/or public service that promotes inclusion and justice. We are particularly interested in scholars whose intellectual traditions are grounded in critical studies in education and/or Indigenous Education. Candidates should have a record of or the collaboration to sustain and expand existing partnerships, and experience providing professional services/supports to students, teachers, schools, or communities. 

Review of applications will begin January 15, 2022, and continue until the position is filled. The position is a 12-month position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023.
