Job Description

Postdoctoral Associate | Aging

Rosenthal & Korstanje Lab

Bar Harbor, ME

The Rosenthal and Korstanje Labs at the Jackson Laboratory (JAX) in Bar Harbor, Maine are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join their aging program focused on senescence.  JAX is home to the Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging, as well as the JAX Center for Aging Research, both led by Dr. Korstanje. Through the newly established JAX Cellular Senescence Network Mouse Tissue Mapping Center (JAX-Sen), led by Drs. Rosenthal and Korstanje, we are profiling senescent cells in kidney, placenta, pancreas, and heart, selected for their clinical relevance to chronic diseases of aging.  These profiling activities will yield subcellular resolution of biomolecular content in senescent cells not possible with human samples, along with an expanded set of senescent cell biomarkers. JAX-Sen is part of the larger SenNet Consortium (https://sennetconsortium.org) established to comprehensively identify and characterize the differences in senescent cells across the body, across various states of human health, and across the lifespan.

The Jackson Laboratory (http://www.jax.org) in Bar Harbor, Maine, USA, is recognized internationally for its research excellence, unparalleled mouse resources, outstanding training environment characterized by scientific collaborations, and exceptional core services - all within a spectacular setting adjacent to Acadia National Park. In addition to lab-based training, JAX has developed a unique program for trainees to expand their professional skills in science communication, entrepreneurship, teaching, mentoring and laboratory management to best prepare postdocs for future career opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to plan, execute and analyze an independent research project is essential, as well as exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work on an independent research project in a team environment benefitting individual projects while supporting overall goals.
  • Preference will be given to self-motivated and career-oriented individuals.

Qualifications:

  • Recently awarded PhD (or equivalent degree) in genetics, aging biology, renal biology, cardiovascular biology, immunology, cell biology, computational sciences or similar disciplines.
  • Experience with mouse as a model organism is essential;
  • Experience with computational analysis of -omics datasets is preferred.

To apply, please submit 1) a cover letter (one page maximum) describing research accomplishments and elaborating on why this position would represent a mutually beneficial opportunity base on your research interests and skills; please note: Applications without a cover letter will not be considered; 2) a current CV, and 3) the names of three references.
