Job Description

Summary

The Staff Scientist will work collaboratively with project team members from the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine. The key responsibilities include operational development, management, and execution of a newborn screening program for neurometabolic disorders. The goal of this program is to enhance awareness and knowledge of neurometabolic conditions and to facilitate access to testing and treatment early in life. This comprehensive program to reduce health disparities in genetic testing and diagnosis will bring down barriers to diagnosis and improve long-term outcomes for individuals with treatable neurometabolic conditions. Job Duties

  • Manage project data and maintain database
  • Prepare outlines, summaries, status reports, graphs, charts, tables and slides for distribution and communication to collaborators
  • Provide PI and project investigators with support in materials writing and editing
  • Create and edit program documents and assist in the writing of grant reports and other high-level correspondence
  • Prepare and develop IRB protocol documents and consent forms
  • Collaborate with investigators to edit and revise manuscripts to optimize clarity and impact
  • Conduct preliminary research such as family and patient medical histories, coordination of genetic testing, and review of patient referrals
  • Interact with program staff and investigators to effectively present their work to a broad audience, including scheduling and conducting interviews with faculty and writing & revising lay summaries of faculty research
  • Compile grant and project reports and recommendations
  • Interpret regulatory rules or rule changes and ensure they are communicated through policies and procedures
  • May correspond with participants or referring clinicians throughout study
  • Retrieve and submit test results to appropriate party
  • Interact with program staff and investigators to effectively present their work to a broad audience, including scheduling and conducting interviews with faculty and writing & revising lay summaries of faculty research

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in genetics, or other related field
  • Experience with REDCap database and database management
  • Previous writing and communications experience
