The Asset Lifecycle Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining technologies, processes, policies, standards, systems, and measurements to effectively manage and track the IT asset portfolio (technology-related hardware and software) with regard to cost, control, risk, compliance, business performance objectives, and IT Governance. The role collaborates with the Office of Strategic Procurement to develop procurement strategies across HMS that optimize technology spending and provide clear IT asset lifecycle standards, processes, guidance, and documentation to the HMS community. The role will recruit a small team of asset analysts and supervise their performance. The Asset Lifecycle Manager ensures quality control throughout the lifecycle of all IT assets, from acquisition to building and commissioning, through operational maintenance, and finally to disposal. The role manages and maintains database records of IT asset information such as CMDB, licenses, service agreements, and warranties for HMS-owned software and hardware, and ensures compliance with licensing and security requirements. The role applies a continuous improvement approach toward technology spending, employing technology and process automation where possible, and providing retrospective and predictive reporting to inform operational, resource, and budget planning activities.


Core Duties:

  • Responsible for effective staff management, including hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environment 
  • Oversee systems integration and installation initiatives 
  • Establish and implement desktop policies, procedures, and standards and ensure conformance with systems goals and procedures 
  • Use operational data to assess individual and team performance 
  • Prepare reports for upper management to highlight progress, issues, etc. 
  • Study and project resource requirements including budget and staffing 
  • Manage the development and delivery of end-user training and documentation 
  • Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies, and Code of Conduct
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
  • Supervisory experience
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in an office setting
  • Occasionally required to work outside of normal business hours, and may be called during off hours
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of advanced user support practices
  • Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor
Additional Information
This position will be based in Boston. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you will begin your work remotely. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). The fully remote nature of this job is only temporary. Once the University and your supervisor determine that it is appropriate, in-person on- campus work will be required as a condition of continued employment. This department actively supports some remote work (within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business) where business and team needs allow. Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.
