Job Overview

Dr. Tom Seegar, Department of Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry and Microbiology is seeking an energetic candidate to fill a Research Assistant position. The incumbent will report directly to Dr. Tom Seegar and be responsible for conducting research within the scope of the lab, studying the structure and function of membrane proteases. Emphasis will be placed on the use of x-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy for structure determination. The University of Cincinnati is establishing itself as a regional leader in cryo-EM. The new structural biology center is home to a Talos L120c, MarkIV Vitrobot system and, coming in November, a 200 kv Glacios equipped with a Falcon4D and energy filter. In addition, the incumbent will use other biophysical approaches and cell-based assays to elucidate molecular function.
Essential Functions
Perform experiments and records data according to research protocols.
Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. May perform statistical and graphical analysis of data.
May assist in animal colony management and animal husbandry.
Apply research principals for less complex assignments.

Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree.
Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Experience
Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Experience in biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology techniques, in particular protein expression, purification and characterization is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
