Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
The Communications Coordinator will play an integral role on a team that drives engagement of 18,000+ students with life-changing career development programs, events and experiences. Reporting to the Associate Director of Marketing & Communications, the Communications Coordinator will spearhead work to create effective written and visual promotional content across a variety of channels, including, email marketing, social media, website, print and digital advertising. The Communications Coordinator will also assist with managing the projects of the undergraduate marketing and communications student staff team.

SuccessWorks provides career development resources, advising, experience-based learning, alumni and employer networking, and other intensive programs to help L&S students translate their majors into fulfilling careers. In 2021-2022, SuccessWorks served 12,631 unique L&S students, an increase of 165% since launching in 2017. The Communications Coordinator will play an important role in accelerating this growth as SuccessWorks strives to fulfill its mission of reaching all 18,000+ L&S students.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the communications strategy in support of unit communication goals.
5% Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
15% Plans editorial content according to established goals and objects
20% Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources
20% Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
20% Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans
10% Manages communications student staff projects as directed, including social media content and student- facing events
10% Creates visual and multimedia content for student and other stakeholder marketing campaigns

EDUCATION:
Required
Bachelor's Degree

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must possess:
-A minimum of 1 year of marketing or communications experience in higher education,
nonprofits or the private sector, including undergraduate or graduate-level internship, part-time work, or volunteer experience.
-Previous experience developing content to promote events, programs or products.
-Previous experience developing content for a variety of channels, including email marketing, social media, web or print.
-Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
-Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work while managing multiple priorities with urgent deadlines.
-Commitment to communicating with diverse audiences and fostering equity & inclusion in the workplace.

Well-qualified candidates will also have:
-Ability to promote the value of a liberal arts and sciences degree.
-A creative approach to communicating with undergraduate students at UW-Madison.
-Experience organizing and managing multiple priorities, both independently and as a team.
-Experience with or eagerness to learn graphics & communications tools like Canva, Hootsuite, or email marketing platforms.
