Duties:




  • Assist in managing the general accounting operations, acts as the liaison between the institution and other agencies in the absence of the Accounting Manager

  • Assist in the day-to-day responsibility for organizing and coordinating specialized accounting functions

  • Reviews reports to determine funding status of accounts and recommending action to correct problems

  • Prepares comparative reports

  • Inputs, reviews, and distributes various accounting data to departments

  • Assists in maintenance and updating of department files

  • Formats and processes various payroll documents for distribution and publication

  • Assist in payroll and tax preparation

  • Reconciles computer reports

  • Responds to complex departmental payroll and tax inquiries

  • Prepares correspondence to departments regarding payroll

  • Provides direction to the accounting staff. Provides oversight to accounting staff in determining proper accounting classification and entries

  • Manage year end processes to include tax changes and W2 reporting

  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position


 

Job Requirements

Education: BS/BA Degree and a minimum of 18 hours of Accounting coursework 



Experience: 48 months experience in general accounting to include 12 months experience in a supervisory role



Skills:




  • Advanced knowledge of Accounting principles, practices, methods, and terminology

  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, accounting software and databases.

  • Ability to collect and organize accounting data, interpret the significance, and prepare accurate reports.

  • Ability to solve advanced accounting and related financial problems.

  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to handle stressful situations.

  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, project management and communication skills.

  • Ability to supervise.



Working Conditions:




  • Physical: Sitting for prolonged periods. Communicate effectively and listens.  Uses computer and telephone.

  • Environmental: Standard Office Environment.



Departmental Preferences:




  • This position is in the Payroll Department. Department duties include all payroll processes and reporting in a timely manner



Supervision: 2 Accounting Specialists 1 Accountant
