Job Description

Associate Research Scientist | Mitochondria in Inflammation and Disease

West Lab

Bar Harbor, ME

The West lab is relocating to The Jackson Laboratory and is seeking an independent, highly motivated PhD-level scientist to lead a collaborative research program to investigate how mitochondrial dysfunction potentiates disease-associated inflammatory responses in primary mitochondrial disorders and cardiomyopathy. The overall goals of our laboratory are to delineate how mitochondria function as central regulators of innate immune and inflammatory responses and to investigate how mitochondria-immune crosstalk contributes to disease and aging. Our laboratory pursues a multidisciplinary approach by integrating cell biology, immunology, and physiology using cutting-edge techniques including engineered mouse models, single-cell multi-omics, super-resolution imaging, and CRISPR-based cellular tools (www.westlaboratory.com).

The ideal candidate should have a strong training background in cell and molecular biology and/or immunology, wet lab and computational experience, and prior expertise using in vivo mouse models. Through leading this program, this talented individual would have access to a world-class consortium of experts in aging and associated diseases as well as cancer biology through The Jackson Laboratory’s NCI-Designated JAX Cancer Center.
