Job Description

Postdoctoral Fellow | Mitochondria-Immune Crosstalk in Cancer

West Lab

Bar Harbor, ME

The West lab is relocating to The Jackson Laboratory and is seeking an independent, highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to lead a collaborative research program to investigate how mitochondrial genome instability shapes immune responses in the melanoma tumor microenvironment. The overall goals of our laboratory are to delineate how mitochondria function as central regulators of innate immune and inflammatory responses and to investigate how mitochondria-immune crosstalk contributes to disease and aging. Our laboratory pursues a multidisciplinary approach by integrating cell biology, immunology, and physiology using cutting-edge techniques including engineered mouse models, single-cell multi-omics, super-resolution imaging, and CRISPR-based cellular tools (www.westlaboratory.com).

The ideal candidate should have PhD in immunology or another relevant life-science discipline and have prior training in cell and molecular biology and/or immunology, wet lab and computational experience, and prior expertise using in vivo mouse models. The successful candidate will have access to JAX’s unique postdoctoral training program, which offers exceptional opportunities for professional development through mentoring, extensive support for grant/fellowship writing, and access numerous workshops and courses. Exceptional candidates can show early independence through the JAX Scholars Program. JAX has a vibrant and interactive research community with unparalleled resources and state of the art facilities for mouse phenotyping and behavioral studies, computational science, mass spectrometry, imaging science, and genome technologies. The JAX Cancer Center (JAXCC) is a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center complemented by institutional education, resource, and service initiatives that support cancer research worldwide.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, or related field of study.
  • Strong training background in molecular biology, cell biology, and in vivo mouse models.
  • Experience in cell culture, flow cytometry, and single-cell technologies are particularly preferred.
  • Candidates should have at least one 1st author publication record in peer-reviewed journal.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, able to work independently and effectively with other members in a productive team.

**Please submit your current CV, 3 letters of reference, and 1-page (maximum) statement of Research Interests and Career Goals at time of application. **
