Job Description

Summary

The Student Helper will work very closely with the graduate student in our laboratory. The graduate student will focus on the crosstalk between mitochondrial biology, release of mtDNA and its transfer to nucleus and genome instability.  The Student Helper will learn basic techniques of molecular biology including fluorescence microscopy, diverse PCR methods, colony PCR, and genome editing in yeast. The student will learn how to design and modify yeast genome using classic approach and CRISP/Cas9 approach. The student is expected to record progress and data daily. The student will present data at lab meetings and in addition, will read and present findings of a research manuscript. Finally, the Student Helper will contribute to an ongoing research project and thus is expected to become co-author on a research manuscript, and will participate in ongoing medical center seminars while in the lab.

Job Duties

  • Learns basic techniques of molecular biology including fluorescence microscopy, diverse PCR methods, colony PCR, and genome editing in yeast.

  • Presents data at lab meetings, and reads and presents findings of a research manuscript.

    • Becomes co-author on a research manuscript.
    • Participates in ongoing medical center seminars while in the lab.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
  • No experience required.
