Summary

Under the direction of the Director, Academic Services & Registrar, the Senior Manager, Financial Aid provides leadership, supervision, and management of the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) Office of Student Financial Aid in the Houston, TX and Temple, TX locations. The Senior Manager ensures compliance with federal, state, and University legal, fiscal, and statutory regulations and policies to successfully meet the financial needs of students in all schools/programs at BCM, including branch campuses. The Senior Manager, Financial Aid is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the department, management of department staff, and developing financial aid strategies that are consistent with and support the mission and objectives of Baylor College of Medicine. The Senior Manager, Financial Aid must seek continuous quality improvement in the office by reviewing, streamlining, and implementing processes to maximize efficiency.

Job Duties

Administrative and Regulatory: 
• Administers federal, institutional, and scholarship funds.
• Implements financial aid policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies for accurate annual allocation reports to federal and state student aid offices. 
• Responsible for federal loan programs; analyze and input changes and corrections to financial aid records utilizing financial aid management programs and student information systems. 
• Oversees and coordinates the completion of reports and surveys for federal and state agencies and accreditation reports, including annual audits and program reviews for accreditation requirements. 

Operations and Communications: 
• Creates and manages materials pertaining to financial aid-related services, policies, applications, staff job descriptions, and guidelines. 
• Oversees the management of the office’s information systems and software for financial aid processing. 
• Provides support to students experiencing extreme financial issues/distress and determines the best course of action. 
• Communicates the impact of the institution’s satisfactory academic progress policy and enrollment status on students’ ability to qualify for federal financial aid. 
• Recommends and implements institutional policies in response to changing federal regulations. 

Collaboration: 
• Collaborates across campuses, schools/programs, and other institutional offices to proactively address issues and new functionality that may impact other offices.
• Works collaboratively across school/programs to identify scholarship recipients.
• Monitors stewardship of institutional loans, working closely with the Offices of Finance, Institutional Advancement, and Administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of and experience with financial aid administrative responsibilities.
• Experience working with a branch campus. 
• Experience with technology used in the financial aid industry.
