A postdoctoral associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Erik Bloss at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine, to perform basic research investigating the mechanisms by which exercise-responsive circuits may be manipulated to prevent structural and functional decline of cortical synapses during aging and in mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease. This work will include chemogenetic and optogenetic manipulations of neural activity in aging mice performing exercise and multiple cognitive assays as well as high resolution microscopic reconstruction of synapses on hypothalamic and cortical neurons. Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be able to plan, develop, execute, and analyze an independent research project.

Qualifications

M.D. or Ph.D. in biological or related sciences is required.
Strong training background in neuroscience is preferred.
Other areas of experience/training that would be valuable include cell biology, aging, exercise physiology, or cognitive/behavioral neuroscience.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
Self-motivated and career-oriented individual preferred;
Minimum of one 1st author paper from graduate work.
