Salary Range: Up to $14 per hour 

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 10 hours per week

Summary

The Aagaard Lab at Baylor College of Medicine seeks a talented and motivated individual to join our team as a Summer Intern in Microbiome Bioinformatics. As a member of our team, you will be involved in analyzing and interpreting large-scale datasets using various bioinformatics software packages and techniques.  You will work closely with our wet lab and bioinformatics team to develop and implement computational pipelines to identify novel insights surrounding the latest research projects in maternal-fetal medicine.

Job Duties

  • Develops, implements, and monitors computational pipelines for the processing of next-generation sequencing data.
  • Assists with the analysis of large-scale microbiome datasets using various bioinformatics tools.
  • Works closely with our team of researchers to identify key findings and insights from the data using (un)supervised machine learning algorithms and techniques.
  • Creates data visualizations that highlight results using various bioinformatic software packages and tools.
  • Performs statistical analysis of biological data.
  • Integrates bioinformatics analysis results into summary reports / present findings to the team and contribute to scientific publications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Biology, Bionformatics, or a related field.
  • Familiar with programming skills in Python, R, or other bioinformatic programming languages.
  • Basic level of understanding of microbiology, molecular biology, and host-microbe interactions.
  • Knowledge of data visualization techniques and tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
