Title: Research Technician II 

Division: Molecular Virology & Microbiology (80001007)  

Department: Molecular Virology & Microbiology - Britton (90007427) 

Location: Houston (1100) 

Salary Range: $28,710 - $38,830 

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00 am - 5:00 pm 

Employment Duration: Full-time 

FLSA Status: Nonexempt 

Summary

The Research Technician in this position will perform research into how the human microbiome impacts health and disease. Isolation of bacterial strains associated with the human body will be a primary focus of this position. Additional responsibilities include conducting experiments combining human intestinal microbes with human intestinal organoids. The technician will be well-trained in state of the art techniques for studying host:microbiome interactions. Performs the routine elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures and record results.

Job Duties

  • Performs microbial strain isolation.
  • Performs routine technical laboratory procedures in molecular biology and microbiology, that includes DNA cloning, virus infection and quantification assays, PCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, and tissue culture, DNA, RNA, and protein extraction from tissue specimens.
  • Maintains laboratory notebook, records, and analyzes experimental data. Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports and manuscripts.
  • Assists in operating and maintaining anaerobic and microoxic chambers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Microbiology.
