Job Description

Summary

The Pryor Innovation Laboratory is looking for a student helper to assist in constructing and testing an ultrasound based continuous coagulation monitoring device, as part of Dr. Pryor's INSTINCT project. The project will last for eight weeks and will involve prototype construction, design troubleshooting, and confirmation of initial design metrics. Under the mentorship of a faculty member, candidates will be taught basic research skills and receive mentoring for their future career path. This project will involve exposure to collaborators from several departments at Texas Children’s Hospital including: General Surgery, Critical Care Medicine, and Transfusion Medicine, as well as, the Texas A&M University Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering. 

 

The Student Helper will be encouraged to virtually attend surgery grand rounds and other learning opportunities, as identified by the Principal Investigator.

Job Duties

  • Works closely with a primary faculty mentor to design, construct, test, and modify  a coagulation measurement device.
  • Assists in the collection, compilation and analysis of data.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment in accordance to budget.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information as requested by the Principal Investigator
  • Documents and interprets results of device development to report to Principal Investigator.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to perform clerical functions with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Basic knowledge of scientific terminology.
  • Working Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow complex written and verbal instructions. 
  • Prioritization and time-management skills sufficient to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good verbal, written and/or interpersonal communication skills.
