Job Description

Summary

A full-time technician position is available in the Deneen Lab at the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Cell and Gene Therapy. The lab is seeking a self-motivated individual to work in a laboratory focused on the glial cells in the brain. The applicant will be required to primarily manage the animal colony for the lab. In addition, the applicant will participate in ongoing research projects. The technician will have excellent organizational skills and a basic understanding of research lab environment.

Job Duties

  • Breeds, weans, and maintains several large mouse colonies.
  • Harvests and processes brain tissue from experimental animals for histology or immunostaining.
  • Assists with ongoing experimental work such as data analysis, tissue histology.
  • Coordinates with lab members to match animal production to experimental needs.
  • Maintains accurate biopsy, breeding, and genotyping records for the laboratory.
  • Interfaces with vivarium staff to ensure special care requirements are met. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience handling multiple biological samples at any given time, and following standard operational protocols.
  • Be self-motivated, proactive, highly organized, and able to efficiently prioritize work in response to multiple demands.
  • Experience with basic laboratory techniques such as PCR. 
  • Has the ability to both work as part of a team and independently.
