Job Description

Oversee day-to-day operations affecting visitor safety and the security of a university art collection with additional office work.

The David Owsley Museum of Art has a staff position available immediately. Responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day operations affecting visitor safety and the security of a university art collection. The position supervises 25-35 student workers and is responsible for scheduling, training, and monitoring 5-8 workers for 8 hours per day on weekdays (T-F) and 4 hours on weekends (Sat.). The person selected for this role must be willing to handle emergencies and be an effective liaison with University Police. Candidates possess strong customer service skills. The position also involves light office work, including correcting time sheets, collecting receipts, and ordering supplies.

Job Function:

Minimum Education:

Eighteen months of training or education beyond high school or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

Associates degree or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

At least one year of related experience.

Preferred Experience:

Three or more years of related experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the Associate Director’s supervision, direct and administer the Museum of Art's day-to-day security operations. Assist with oversight and maintenance of all museum security systems, including alarms, surveillance systems, access controls, and building maintenance as it relates to security in collaboration with the Associate Director and University Facilities.
  • Supervise student employees. Advertise for positions, interview, hire, train, evaluate performance, discipline, schedule shifts, and assure security guard coverage for the Museum of Art’s regular hours, evening events, and weekends.
  • Manage recorded information in the form of incident reports and visitor data.
  • Open and/or close the Museum of Art multiple days per week and for special events, including after-hours events and weekends. Respond to and reset alarms after regular hours in collaboration with university police.
  • Prepare, monitor, approve, and sign off on payroll records to for Museum of Art student employees.
  • Manage and/or assist with special events, including catering arrangements, permits, setup, and cleanup.
  • Monitor work orders; act as the Museum of Art’s main on-site contact and coordinator with university facilities; and provide workers with access to the building for maintenance, repairs, and projects.
  • Maintain accounts; reconcile transactions for the Museum of Art’s credit card; maintain and purchase office supplies; monitor flow and approval of purchase orders and materials received; interact with campus departments regarding the movement of equipment.
  • Perform reception and office duties; screen phone calls; greet visitors; direct and monitor visitor traffic; dispense information; distribute incoming office mail; prepare outgoing mail; assist with proofing and editing; maintain mailing lists.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
