Summary

The Center for Comparative Medicine (CCM) provides for the care, health and well-being of all research animals used in the pursuit of scientific achievement and excellence at Baylor College of Medicine. CCM provides the highest quality veterinary and animal care and acts as a resource for the faculty on veterinary and scientific issues relating to the use of laboratory animals.


The Senior Accountant position will play a key role in the day-to-day financial and business operations of a fast paced, busy research division department. This position functions as a financial lead in the CCM business office. The selected candidate will contribute significantly to process development and improvement to ensure business goals are met.

 

This position will start in-office, but the work arrangement may become hybrid.

Job Duties

  • Performs and oversees the daily operation of a department primarily in the areas of financial management.
  • Adheres to and supports best business practices. Develops processes and guidelines for team members.
  • Performs and oversees monthly invoicing processes to ensure steady and accurate revenue stream.
  • Develops successful strategies for expense control.
  • Reviews and approves financial entries and transactions.
  • Assists in developing and managing budget and financial data. Monitors, controls and verifies expenditures. Conducts financial analyses and generate analytical reports.
  • Assists in overseeing post-award related projects and related tasks.
  • Assists in the oversight of billing and collections for the department. 
  • Plays a key role in business office-related standard operating procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field may be accepted in lieu of two years of experience.
  • Experience working with SAP.
  • Prior work experience in an academic/research setting. 
  • Experience in client billing/accounts receivable/accounts payable.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
