Job Responsibilities

General Summary:
Responsible for preparing accurate and complete complex financial reporting and analysis as part of the Accounting and Financial Reporting department while supporting Controller Office initiatives and interacting with other constituents internal and external to the University and applicable compliance related reporting.

Major Responsibilities:
Prepare and process significant and complex financial transactions to support the timely and accurate preparation and issuance of the university’s financial statements in accordance with GAAP, including by not limited to year-end revenue deferral and expense accrual entries.
Prepare various required and ad hoc internal and external financial surveys for timely submission.
Analyze financial data to ensure accuracy, prepare reasonability and flux analyses and assist with the preparation of the quarterly financial statement line item flux analysis, including research into significant items and resolving discrepancies.
Prepare month and quarter end financial reporting as requested to aid in managements’ decision making processes.
Assist Sr. Financial Reporting Analyst in the annual year-end audit engagements with RIT’s external auditor. Prepare audit lead schedules and other audit workpapers as needed. Assist with the collection of materials and data from key individuals across campus prior to the start of audit fieldwork.
Provide and support information requests related to year-end consolidated financial statements including preparation of financial statement footnotes.
Prepare schedules to assist with the preparation of benefit rate proposals and cost allocation reporting.
Participate in continuous improvement and control activities related to financial reporting in the enterprise business system and identifying areas for improvement.
Complete special projects as assigned by management.
Participate in a minimum of 40 hours of training/professional development annually (or a pro rata amount based on standard working hours). Training must be applicable to the employee’s role current within the Controller’s Division with the intent of enhancing overall knowledge as well as the specific skills, whether functional or technical, required to perform successfully in the position.

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Accounting
Five to six years’ experience required or an equivalent combination of education and related experience with financial analysis.
Skills:
Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices required.
Must possess strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database products.
Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to interact with both external customers and internal team members with professionalism.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and time management skills required.
Must possess the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment; understand the various risks the organization faces and recommend practical and effective solutions.
Must work independently with minimal supervision and exercise professional judgment in carrying out all assigned responsibilities.


Preferred Qualifications

BS or MS in accounting
Prior audit experience with knowledge of Oracle functional applications and reporting tools
CPA
