Job Summary:
The Program Planning & Outreach Coordinator serves a key role in establishing and supporting the development, implementation, and delivery of environmental and outdoor education programming at Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center. Upham Woods is a residential center within the UW-Madison, Division of Extension that provides hands-on, field-based education and recreation opportunities to youth, youth leaders, and adults through programs focused on environmental and leadership education. The Center, officially accredited through the American Camp Association (ACA), consists of 14 buildings including a new welcome center, full-service kitchen and dining hall, nature center, and lodging for visitors and seasonal staff. The Center sits on the Wisconsin River with over 300 acres of forested land, including a 210-acre state natural area island. This position joins a highly collaborative team of educators passionate about connecting youth and adults to positive outdoor learning experiences with the goal of developing future stewards of Wisconsin's natural resources.

Responsibilities of the Program Planning & Outreach Coordinator position include:
- Coordinate group programming at Upham Woods including serving as the advanced primary communication contact/coordinator for all client groups, including identifying programming needs of groups; assisting in selection of appropriate classes; working collaboratively to ensure that all scheduling and communication needs internally and externally are met prior to the group's arrival; and making independent group schedules in accordance with Upham Woods policies;
- Assist with planning and delivering outreach program activities, strengthen partnerships, ensure adherence to policy, and assist with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community;
- Keep accurate, complete, and timely program records to contribute to annual federal, state, and University reporting requirements;
- Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, and mentoring of 2-7 seasonal staff members, including lesson plan preparation, modeling high quality delivery, and post-program clean up procedures and animal care;
- Serve as volunteer coordinator and recruiter for short- and long-term volunteer needs, including for specific special events, routine/ongoing needs, and special initiatives (counselor training);
- Strive to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences.

The position shares responsibility as emergency on-call and on an as-needed basis for evening and weekend programming, flexing work hours during the typical work week (M-F) to accommodate evening or weekend hours. The successful candidate must hold a valid driver's license to drive university fleet vehicles and must obtain Lifeguard, Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED, and First Aid certification, within 6 months of employment.

15% Teaches culturally relevant educational programs to adults and youth using learner-centered activities and lessons
50% Implements initiatives and events that serve the target audience
5% Procures and maintains course materials and supplies
10% Tracks program evaluation and incorporates feedback for improvement
5% Helps design marketing materials and promotions for programs
5% Other duties as assigned to include animal feeding and care (vertebrate animals) and/or assisting with food service
10% Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, and mentoring of 2-7 seasonal staff members
