Job Description

The Associate Dean of Students and Deputy Sexual Misconduct & Title IX Coordinator for Students (ADOS/Deputy SM-TIXC) plays in integral role in providing guidance, support and assistance to the Ball State community. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students/Title IX Coordinator, the ADOS/Deputy SM-TIXC leads the day-to-day responsibilities associated with the University's Title IX compliance obligations involving students. This position coordinates and engages in intake, investigation, administration, and assessment of all matters pertaining to Title IX for students and all reports of sexual misconduct interpersonal violence, and gender-based discrimination, Title IX or otherwise. Serving on the institution’s Title IX Team, this individual will be regarded as a University subject matter expert for matters related to sexual misconduct, interpersonal violence, and gender-based discrimination involving students.

As a senior leader in the Office of the Dean of Students, the Associate Dean will contribute to student success initiatives; providing assistance, education, intervention, and referral services to the university community.

Job Function:

This position coordinates and engages in intake, investigation, administration, and assessment of all matters pertaining to Title IX for students and all reports of sexual misconduct interpersonal violence, and gender-based discrimination, Title IX or otherwise. Serving on the institution’s Title IX Team, this individual will be regarded as a University subject matter expert for matters related to sexual misconduct, interpersonal violence, and gender-based discrimination involving students.

Minimum Education:

Master's Degree from an accredited institution.

Preferred Education:

Advanced degree in education, higher education, leadership, counseling, social work, criminal justice, law, or related field; formal training and/or certifications in Title IX/civil rights process administration and investigation.

Minimum Experience:

Minimum of five years direct professional experience related to Title IX, student conduct, campus safety, victim advocacy, criminal justice, and/or compliance in higher education; In depth understanding of Title IX regulations and resolution processes, VAWA, Clery, and FERPA and an ability to translate this knowledge to practical application.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Title IX Process for Students: Provide leadership, direction, coordination and support ensuring the equitable intake and investigation of matters pertaining to Title IX and reports of sexual misconduct interpersonal violence, and gender-based discrimination, Title IX or otherwise, involving students. Oversee ongoing case management regarding student records; provide assessment and reports to Title IX Coordinator as needed.
  • Student Advocacy, Intervention, and Crisis Response: Provide assistance, education, intervention, and referrals services to students, families, faculty, and others when life events or extenuating circumstances occur; Support the management of student issues, concerns, and crises that are presented to the ODOS; When appropriate, serve in an advocacy role for students needing assistance in navigating campus policies or difficult situations; Serves as a liaison and consultant to campus and community constituencies related to student policies, processes, and ODOS functions.

  • Title IX Leadership: Partner with the Title IX Coordinator, other SM-TIX Deputy Coordinators, Investigators, Student Conduct, University Police, University Victim Advocates and other appropriate parties to provide guidance and support for matters related to sexual and gender based harassment, sexual violence, domestic and dating violence, stalking and retaliation.
  • Development and Training: Assist with selection of and provide consultation, information, and training to members of the University's SM-Title IX Investigation team; provide sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking information and training to select groups; assist with the development and dissemination of educational and informational materials (including brochures, posters, and web-based materials) to inform members of the university community of Title IX and Campus SaVE Act responsibilities and the relevant campus resources.
  • Partnerships: Support the coordination of ongoing efforts to maintain collaborative relationships within the university with campus partners; achieve and maintain collaborative relationships with external partners, including local and county law enforcement officials, hospital personnel, and others in the community, as appropriate.
  • Service: Serve on the University's Title IX Team, Behavioral Intervention Team (middle circle member), University Prevention Team; SA Director's group; serve on additional divisional and university committees as deemed relevant to duties.
  • Additional Administrative: Provide support in the production of annual reports, surveys, and assessment; Oversee the creation of reports, information, data, and analyses as requested; Organize and maintain files, case reports, contact records and other miscellaneous records regarding Title IX compliance and ODOS matters within the data management software (Maxient).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
