Our dynamic faculty function as collaborative, innovative, inclusive, and adaptive members of the College of Fine Arts community, both within and beyond the home unit, serving as quality teachers, productive in creative and/or scholarly work, engaged in public service activities, and contributing to the Ball State and Muncie communities and beyond. Additionally, lifelong learning at Ball State University extends educational engagement beyond the classroom and includes learning for professional development, personal enrichment, or other goals throughout one’s lifetime. Faculty will be expected to participate in the department’s, college’s, and university’s lifelong learning opportunities when available and may be assigned teaching responsibility in this area as part of their overall responsibilities.

Duties and responsibilities include:
  • Instructional load will include all levels of course work in classes such as:
  • Recording Techniques, Live Sound, Mixing and Mastering, Electronics, Intro to Digital Signal Processing, Advanced Audio Concepts, Game audio.
  • Other teaching duties based on programmatic need and the expertise of the faculty hired individual may be assigned
  • Additional duties may include
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success
  • Mentorship / project / capstone oversight
  • Live sound and studio production

Salary and benefit packages for this position are competitive, with salaries for this opportunity beginning at $50,000 annually.

The School of Music invites applications for a NON-TENURE LINE Assistant Teaching Professor of Music Media Production beginning August of 2024. The successful candidate will contribute to the various disciplines within the Music Media Production program. Based on qualifications they will teach courses in one or several of the following topics: Recording technology, microphone techniques, mixing, mastering, signal processing, electronics, live sound, immersive and game audio.

Minimum Experience:

  • Education: Master’s degree in music technology, electrical engineering, audio engineering or a related field
  • Experience: Music technology instruction at the University level
  • Proficiency in AVID Pro Tools including AVID S series of control surfaces
  • Proficiency in analog and digital audio equipment
  • Proficiency in basic analog signal flow

Preferred Experience:

  • Education: Ph.D. or equivalent in music technology, electrical or audio engineering or a related field or several years of industry experience.
  • Experience: Significant industry and/or teaching experience in recording, immersive audio, signal processing, live sound. 
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate courses. 
  • Experience in production of commercial music or demonstrated high proficiency in DSP environments such as Matlab, Reaktor, Cycling 74 MAX. 
  • Documented participation in professional societies such as AES.
