POSITION SUMMARY:


This position will act as Application Developer I for Advanced Visualization Center, part of Information Technology, Research Computing. A major function of the unit and position is the development and support of specialized applications such as 3D printing, 3d and 2d graphics and digital asset creation, and 3D CAD related development. This position will work to maintain the 3d print lab hardware and software, as well as develop 3D model prototypes for faculty, students, and staff from multiple departments across campus. The essential functions of position include testing , prototype development, hardware and 3d-printing application maintenance. This position requires specialized knowledge of appropriate CAD modeling development tools for mechanical hard surface and organic digital modeling (CAD) for 3D printing, and 3d printers. The position requires the ability to work and solve problems independently, as well as working collaboratively as part of a team to complete tasks while meeting project deadlines and requirements.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain and support the 3d print lab. Submit and oversee 3d printing of client projects. This may involve assisting, training, and guiding student employees in the best practices and processes for 3d printing.

Work with the development team to build 2d and 3d assets as required for optimal functionality for either 3d printing, visualizations, and interactive applications such as mobile or XR.

Collaborating with students, faculty and researchers to produce solutions that meet the educational or research requirements of the users and the software / hardware specifications necessary to efficiently implement.

Evaluate, test, and document hardware, software, prototype applications, lab procedures and project workflows.

Research, prepare and present current and new innovative hardware, software, and procedures as they relate to technology trends in digital modeling, animation, interactive media, and 3d printing.

Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and IT certification, OR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 1-year relevant work experience, OR
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or other field involving software and analytical training

PREFERRED:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering in a related field, or other field involving digital modelling for 3D printing and/or interactive media, computer-aided design, or software and analytical training and two years of IT related work experience; or a bachelor's degree with no specific required field and three years of IT related work experience, OR a Master's degree and one year of IT related work experience, OR a combination of six years of IT related work experience and validated training.

Preparation for a relevant IT certification is related to training.
CAD and 3D Printing experience
Autodesk Maya and other related software
Experience with 3D graphics and interactive media / gaming (textures, shaders, animation)
Knowledge of Premiere, After Effects
Graphic Design a plus
