Position Summary
The University of Memphis invites applications for the following nine-month, visiting professor position in the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music beginning August, 2024.
Director of Orchestral Activities/Assistant Professor – Duties to include: Direct the University Symphony Orchestra and manage all aspects of the orchestral program. Teach conducting and/or related classes, and develop innovative programming for the orchestra program. Actively recruit for the orchestra program and advise/mentor graduate conducting students. Other responsibilities may include conducting the major opera productions each semester. Applicants with additional areas of expertise and interest are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Position Qualifications
MM degree minimum required; demonstrated successful teaching in the areas of orchestral conducting; prior experience as an orchestra director at the collegiate or professional level. Candidate must demonstrate potential for continued scholarly research/creative activities.
