Job Description

Position Highlights:

A Healthcare Process Engineer (HPE) drives process improvement and resource optimality in all areas of Moffitt (Clinical, Research, Administrative) through in-depth study of workflows, data, and systems.  An HPE is responsible for delivering comprehensive insights and actionable recommendations to operational leaders for data-driven decision making. Partnership and collaboration with Operations, Finance, Strategy Office, IT, Project Management Office, and Organizational Development is essential for this position. This role will be given the opportunity to design engineering/analytic tools based on best practices and use their analytical and technical skills to the fullest. 

 

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:   

  • Master’s Degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Operations or closely related field. 
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma
  • Experience with process modeling (capacity, utilization, staffing, queuing, simulation using discrete event simulation software etc.)
  • Experience within the healthcare industry and with clinical applications such as CERNER
  • Experience with Six Sigma methodology and/or Lean concepts and techniques 
  • Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g. QI Macros, Excel SPC, etc.)
  • Experience with discrete event simulation modeling (e.g. Flex Sim etc.)
  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence analytic platforms such (e.g. Tibbco Spotfire, Oracle OAC or Essbase)
  • Experience with optimization modeling (e.g. Excel Solver)

 

Responsibilities:

Data Collection

  • Support the enterprise’s growing demand for intelligent and insightful data. Extract and communicate meaningful qualitative and quantitative insights from raw data.  Identify new kinds, types, and sources of data to drive business innovation throughout the organization

Perform Sophisticated Analysis Techniques

  • Enables business outcomes through data-driven insights and analytics.  Develops and utilizes sophisticated tools and techniques to accurately and appropriately quantify, interpret, and analyze data and process; assists with the identification of improvement opportunities to best utilize Moffitt resources.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting

  • Mine, prepare, blend, analyze and report critical data for decision making; develops and utilizes tools and techniques to accurately and appropriately summarize, visually display, and present data; re-measures processes to monitor and track performance; reports and interprets data for decision-making; develops presentations and presents assessments and results to stakeholders; coach project leaders and sponsors to own their data, reporting, monitoring and control plans.

Drive Innovation through Analytics

  • Uses analytics to drive innovation, organizational objectives and a data driven culture.
    • works operational and clinical leadership to use data to drive decisions
    • create synergies and sharing of learning, new approaches, and reporting framework
    • participates in peer review and collaboration opportunities
    • continuously improves tools and techniques and integrate PEx into Moffitt’s culture
    • leverage benchmarking to identify opportunities when possible

Lead Engagements

Support PEx Insights efforts from inception to implementation through effective partnership and communication with project owners, sponsors, team members and colleagues.

  • Manage project scope
  • Develop business cases/ use cases
  • Plan and communicate feasible approaches (agile when possible)
  • Prioritize tasks to deliver meaningful insights in an agile manner
  • Project management - support the delivery and implementation
  • Facilitate effective, cross-functional working sessions with stakeholders

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Operations or closely related field. 
  • Three (3) years of experience in data collection, analysis, monitoring and reporting is required  
  • OR - Two (2) years of experience at Moffitt in data collection, analysis, monitoring and reporting may be considered "in lieu of" the three years.
  • Experience with advanced features of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Word functionality.
