Job Description

Under supervision, perform duties related to the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing fixtures, equipment, and devices of University facilities complying with appropriate regulations and codes.

Ball State University welcomes applications for a 2nd shift Plumber position.

Job Function:

Under supervision, perform duties related to the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing fixtures, equipment, and devices of University facilities complying with appropriate regulations and codes.

Minimum Education:

1.High School diploma or equivalent (GED).

Preferred Education:

1.Completion of plumbing related vocational school courses.

Minimum Experience:

1.Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in Plumbing as approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship Training, or six (6) years of experience as a Plumber, or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired as determined by Ball State University.
2.Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and University policies and procedures.
3.Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.
4.You must be 18 years or older.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Construct, repair, remodel, install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures of University facilities as directed.
  • Read and comprehend blue prints, drawings, diagrams, and sketches to insure proper specifications and codes are followed.
  • Weld, braze, solder, silfos, thread, and assemble plumbing related materials and fixtures.
  • Read measuring instruments, pressure, temperature, and vacuum gauges; read and monitor back flow testing equipment.
  • Install, service, and maintain compressed air, gas, or fluid handling lines or vessels as required.
  • Clean and maintain drainage lines, sewers, ejectors, and sewage ejection equipment.
  • Move and erect ladders, scaffolding, and other lift equipment as required.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of various job related chemicals, environmental concerns, applicable codes and technology advancements/improvements.
  • Clean and maintain all department equipment and tools; clean up work sites; report all damaged or missing equipment or tools to the Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as required.
