Position Description

The Department of Performing Arts at Rider University seeks an adjunct instructor of dance for Tuesday evenings this Fall, 2024. This position is to teach one half of a special topics course split with Hip-Hop (which will meet Fridays). The focus of the Tuesday evening course is “Voguing” or, as appropriate, another contemporary dance style of particular focus requiring particular background & expertise. The course will run Tuesdays, 6:30-8pm for 13 weeks commencing in September, on Rider’s Lawrenceville, NJ campus.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in dance, musical theatre, or related discipline or equivalent professional experience (ex: Broadway, professional company)
  • One year of demonstrated teaching experience at the university/college level, company or studio or other professional and/or commercial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching Voguing and/or other contemporary style(s) or technique(s) to various skill levels among collegiate learners. 
  • The ideal candidate will be an individual with innovative ideas about the teaching and practice of dance technique, as well as a commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry and body-positive, equitable learning practices within a dance studio. 
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in inclusive approaches in the area of Voguing and/or other contemporary dance styles and techniques, with specific attention to the training of future performers.
